About the author: Rhonda Dunlap is a natural lifestyle advocate and author of natural health cafe.org. NHC is a site to help inspire and to encourage those that want to lead a more natural and holistic lifestyle. Living a natural lifestyle takes a holistic approach to health and nutrition by looking at the person as a whole which includes looking at one’s lifestyle. Physical activity, dealing with stress, meal planning, spiritual connection, environment, social connections all of which are part of our whole self that affects each of the other areas of our life. Taking care of ourselves and being aware of the impact of the other areas of an individual's life can have an effect on the overall state of one's well being. We can spend a lot of years putting in the time and effort to build a life we think we should have, however, we need to look at the cost of how we use up our health resources in the process. There is a quote that I think is so applicable by a fellow natural health advocate, Kevin Gianni, who says, "we spend our health trying to acquire wealth, and then retire and spend our wealth trying to regain our health. Don't get caught in the trap." I for one have been there as most of us have probably experienced at one time or another. I spent years on the fast-pace lifestyle after college, working on my career path, marriage and care-giving for my ailing mother. I awoke one day feeling burned out and stressed out. I had no energy, I felt another round of bronchitis coming on, and I could not seem to relax. There was always so much to do. When I went to my doctor, he suggested rest and anti-stress medication to take the edge off of a busy, stressful life and grieving and care giving for a parent. So I gave it a try, however, it did not feel right for me. I knew I did not want to rely on a medication to help me deal with life experiences such as grieving and a high pace lifestyle. I realize that medication is necessary for some people at times in their life to handle life's obstacles, I just knew for me that there were other options available. For me, I knew that I needed to get proactive in my life and change the things that I could change and that required learning some new ways of dealing with the inevitable stresses of life. I wanted to feel good again and to gain back my energy and get back into shape and feel healthy again. As a proponent of natural health I went on a long search of how to regain what I had lost over a period of years while living an unbalanced lifestyle. In my research, I began to write down what I was doing on a daily basis. My findings began to reveal the basic things that were missing such as: - eating right
- exercising
- practicing stress management
- getting into a regular sleep habit
- prioritizing things that are important
- quality relationships and connections
This list gave me some telling ideas of what needed attention and I made the decision to take action and devise a new lifestyle plan. That was the first proactive step that led me to take the next step and the next. When we feel out of balance, every thing else gets out of balance. And when that happens, we definitely aren't going to be our best to ourselves or to anyone else for that matter. As work, family, and all of the extra busy activities that happen in life, we must find ways to balance our lifestyle. We can live with vitality throughout life, it begins with the multitude of choices that we make each day. When my mother passed away a few years ago, I decided to quit the fast-pace career and I went back to school to learn what I am passionate about in natural health. There I found some of the answers for me on how to gain some balance in my life and get back to living a more healthy and natural lifestyle. It is my hope to share what I have learned over the years and to help inspire others to find their own truth. Where ever you may be today it is my hope that you may find abundance of positive and natural ways of living life. Here is to living your best, Rhonda Thank you so much for visiting. I hope you will stop back by again.
