Clean drinking water is one of the most important things in the
world. I used to think I was getting that from my faucet.
I decided to do research on it and was alarmed to find out all the chemicals that are placed in the drinking water. Aacck! I decided I didn't want to drink chemicals when I am doing everything I can in all other aspects of my life to avoid them!
Why DO they put all those chemicals in the water? It is rare to find a natural water source that does not have pollutants or bacteria in it. I have heard you can pretty much go up to the tiptop of the world, and the water is still contaminated, much less in our little continent, where there is always SOMETHING upstream.
Public water companies MUST ensure there are no unhealthy natural (and unnatural) contaminants in the water by ADDING chemicals to kill them, thus ensuring to the best of their ability...clean drinking water. My definition of what I want to put into my body as clean is different. Anyhew...
“Bug Spray and Weed Killer by the Glass,” “Drugs Found in Drinking Water,” “Water Samples Test Positive for Perchlorate”
Headlines about this have appeared in major
newspapers over the past few years. Scares about cyst contamination
are quite common. There have been worries about lead contamination for
over a decade. Unfortunately, we can no longer drink water from natural sources without treating it first.
So I then researched bottled water...hey, that's easy, right? Not so much folks. The bottling industry was probably quite happy when the stories started circulating about lead and cyst contamination. In 2006, the industry raked in over $60 million.
The big, bad news however, is that purchasing bottled water contributes to one of the biggest sources of trash on our earth! It is NOT, in any way, a solution, either for the environment...or possibly even for your health.
If you choose bottled water as your main water source, you should also know that bottled is not necessarily any safer than what is coming out of your tap!
Natural Health Cafe Tip
Plastic bottles are a major source of pollution. Tons of our natural resources are used to make them and when they are empty, they end up in a landfill. This is not good for our health or the environment!
The solution for me has been a long search for a good drinking water filter system to install in my kitchen. I found a system at the Las Vegas Health Expo a couple of years ago that met my expectations. It has a high rating for reducing the chemicals in our tap water and it was in my price range. This filter system has saved me a lot of money as I no longer buy the bottled waters.
Water is so very important..it is important for your overall health to hydrate as much as possible. I throw a sprig of fresh mint, a couple of slices of lemon or orange in my water pitcher and keep it in the fridge to drink throughout the day. By flavoring the water I feel like drinking it more.
I fill up my 24 ounce BPA free water container and take it where ever I go. Because why would I drink the water in restaurants and other places that just get their water from the tap! By taking my water bottle..not only do I have clean drinking water but I am also saving valuable resources by not having the waiter bring me a glass of water, and then later on using water to wash that glass.
You can check out the product that I put in my own home to help reduce the harmful chemicals in your water.
The headlines really are true. There are real reasons to worry about contaminants. Many of them are known to cause cancer. Small quantities of the toxins actually build up in the body’s organs over time. The greater your level of exposure, the greater the concern of the threat to your health.
But buying thousands of dollars worth of plastic bottles filled with who-knows-what is not guaranteeing clean drinking water. Plastic bottles are made with chemicals that seep into the liquid and interfere with your body’s natural production of hormones. Say what? This is true of any kind of beverage in a plastic bottle.
Every contaminant ever found in a public source has also been found in the bottled brands!!
A good clean drinking water filter can remove nearly every trace of any common contaminant and save you money, too.
The average family of four can spend $4000 per year on bottled water, according to the Environmental Working Group. A good drinking water filter can be purchased for less than $200.
And if you are not currently buying bottled water, the initial investment of a water filter is inexpensive.
The best filters remove more than 99% of pesticides (bug spray), herbicides (weed killer), drugs, perchlorate, cysts and lead. They remove chlorine as well, which is present in most publicly treated supplies.
The use of any kind of disinfectant causes the formation of
Trihalomethanes, (THMs - chlorination by products) . People exposed to
the amount of THMs normally present in drinking water have a 40% greater
risk of certain kinds of cancer.
Only the best filters remove THMs. The ones you find in department stores do NOT remove THMs. I encourage you to look for a good water filter and avoid the cheapy ones.
Everyone has a right to clean drinking water. Everyone can have it. The benefits of drinking water are so important. So make the investment of a good water filter in your home today and lower the chemicals that may be in your drinking water.
