"Great Food Choices Yield A Better Diabetic Lifestyle"

I am from a family of severe diabetics on both sides of the family tree.
It seems sad now but every single one of my relatives, except for three of us in the former generations have all died from diabetic complications before the age of 50.
My mother, one aunt and myself have lived beyond the half century mark. Each of us learned early, our diet was a large contributing factor in the way we felt and the way this disease affected our body and our health.
Yes, I still cheat occasionally (I own a candy store and I make chocolate candies for a living). And of course, somebody has to try out all those new recipes before I release them to the sales floor.
But, there is one advantage to my position.
I am so sick and tired of looking at chocolate. So, the advantage, if you are tired of looking at it, you don't eat it unless you absolutely have too. I am the only person I have ever known that has decided it is possible to starve to death in the middle of mountains of chocolate.
So what did I turn to in my diet to try to gain a little leverage for the odds to go my way in this fight with diabetes? Fruits and vegetables, of course.
I enjoy cooking and there is so many ways to prepare foods so they stay healthy.
If you aren't a good cook or you feel lost in the kitchen, sign yourself up for a few simple cooking classes in your area. Many times, the grocery store, the farm stores, the church groups, the county fair, the local hospital or a woman's club plus a lot of other organizations do offer simple to prepare dishes for normal people like us. If you take the time to learn the basics, you can start adding the frills to your food dishes later if you like.
Keeping yourself healthy though really is not that difficult. It just takes a little practice till you can get it right. That is a whole lot easier if you have someone show you the right way to start.
